AI Engineer - AI/LLM (Backend)

About the role

Volga Partners is seeking a mid‑level AI Engineer to design, build, and ship AI‑powered backend features such as chatbots, copilots, and automation tools. You will work directly with founders and product teams to turn generative AI concepts into production‑ready services that scale reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and launch AI‑driven features (chatbots, copilots, automation tools).
• Design and implement Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using embeddings and vector search.
• Write and refine prompts, system instructions, and prompt‑engineering strategies.
• Integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) into production systems.
• Build backend services in Python or Node.js to support AI workflows.
• Process real‑world data sources such as documents, logs, and external APIs.
• Improve reliability through testing, evaluation, and iterative debugging of hallucinations, latency, and cost issues.
• Collaborate closely with founders and product teams on roadmap and feature direction.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in machine learning or AI‑related roles.
• Proven track record delivering production‑ready AI solutions.
• Strong coding ability in Python or JavaScript/Node.js.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs and building RAG or agent‑based systems.
• Solid understanding of core ML concepts; fine‑tuning experience is a plus.
