Optical Transmission Network Engineer (DWDM / OTN / MS-OTN)

About the role

A leading telecom client is hiring an experienced Optical Transmission Network Engineer for a role focused on large-scale optical transport networks and advanced telecom infrastructure. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with DWDM, OTN/MS-OTN and Huawei OSN equipment, covering network implementation, commissioning, integration, troubleshooting, service migration and project delivery. The position is based in Islamabad.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, configure, integrate, commission and maintain optical transmission networks.
• Work hands-on with DWDM, SDH, MSTP/OTN and MS-OTN technologies.
• Commission and integrate equipment on Huawei OSN 9800 (M12/M24/U32/U64) and OSN 1800V/VPRO platforms.
• Execute service migration, network cutover, rerouting and node insertion; support SDH-to-OTN and vendor-to-OTN migrations, and FOADM-to-ROADM and OLA-to-ROADM upgrades.
• Use NMS/NCE platforms for configuration, service provisioning, monitoring and migration.
• Troubleshoot optical transmission faults, identify network risks and implement corrective solutions.
• Coordinate with project teams, the NOC and other technical stakeholders to deliver projects successfully.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• 3-4 years of hands-on experience in optical transmission engineering.
• Practical experience with DWDM and OTN/MS-OTN networks, and with Huawei OSN equipment (OSN 9800 and/or OSN 1800).
• Experience in equipment configuration, commissioning, integration, service provisioning or optical network implementation.
• Preferred: ROADM/FOADM, ASON, CDC, large-scale multi-vendor projects and Huawei network management platforms.
• FTTH, GPON, MSAG, EPON, DSLAM or access-network experience alone is not sufficient.
