Principal Software Engineer – Java

About the role

As a Principal Software Engineer at tkxel, you will contribute to the design and evolution of scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems across enterprise, IoT, and data‑driven domains. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role for someone with strong Java engineering depth, solid architectural thinking, and the ability to guide teams in building future‑ready systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop modular, resilient architectures using Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and domain‑driven design.
• Provide technical guidance on JVM behavior, garbage collection, concurrency, and performance tuning.
• Architect real‑time data ingestion pipelines with Kafka, MQTT, WebSockets, gRPC or similar technologies.
• Integrate backend services with relational, NoSQL and time‑series databases, and collaborate with data and AI/ML teams on APIs and event schemas.
• Promote observability, distributed tracing, and monitoring using tools such as Zipkin, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK.
• Mentor engineers on system design, code quality, performance optimization, and refactoring decisions.

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture‑focused role.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset with excellent communication skills.
• Experience guiding cross‑functional agile teams and participating in technical discovery or pre‑sales discussions.

Required skills

• Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, JPA/Hibernate, RESTful API design.
• Concurrency, JVM performance tuning, functional programming concepts in Java.
• Microservices, API gateways, service‑to‑service communication, reactive frameworks (Spring WebFlux or Vert.x).
• Distributed tracing and monitoring (Zipkin, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with Kubernetes or other container orchestration.
• Relational databases, NoSQL databases, and preferably time‑series databases.
• CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, modern DevOps workflows.
• IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP) and streaming platforms (Kafka, AWS Kinesis) are a plus.
