Remote Mechanical Engineer – System Architecture

About the role

The client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide expert guidance on system architecture, troubleshoot complex issues, and optimise performance across distributed, cloud‑based environments. This fully remote contract position allows you to work from anywhere while collaborating with global product, engineering, and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evaluate scalable system architectures that meet evolving business and technical requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve high‑priority production issues with minimal downtime.
• Develop and document engineering best practices, standards, and guidelines for cross‑team adoption.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews to ensure quality and security compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience with distributed systems, microservices, or large‑scale backend infrastructure.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and a track record of resolving complex technical challenges.
• Excellent written communication skills for clear technical documentation.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Python, Java, Go, or Rust.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure.
• Containerisation tools: Docker, Kubernetes.
