Staff Accountant (Remote)

About the role

The Staff Accountant will support a portfolio of clients for a remote‑first organization, handling a full range of accounting activities. This role combines bookkeeping, payroll, tax compliance and month‑end close responsibilities while delivering high‑quality financial data to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Bookkeeping: Record daily transactions, maintain general ledgers, and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
• Reconciliations: Complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage vendor bills, client invoices, payments, and collections.
• Payroll: Process and record payroll transactions using third‑party applications while ensuring federal and state compliance.
• Sales Tax: Prepare and file sales‑tax returns accurately and on time.
• Month‑End Close: Perform adjusting journal entries, accruals, and other close activities.
• 1099 Preparation: Prepare and review year‑end 1099 filings for the firm’s client base.
• Special projects and tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience in a public or private setting.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to switch between proactive independent work and collaborative team efforts as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QB ProAdvisor certification required if not already held).
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop (preferred).
• Strong understanding of GAAP and full‑cycle accounting.
• Experience preparing 1099 filings and sales‑tax returns.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based accounting tools such as Bill.com, Gusto, Xero or Fathom.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and Teams.
