Senior Backend Engineer (JavaScript & Node.js)

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Backend Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering problems. You will own the design, development and production of backend systems, collaborating closely with product, design and engineering teams to turn business requirements into scalable, reliable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, architect and implement complex backend features and distributed services using Node.js.
• Build and maintain high‑performance RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
• Own the full technical lifecycle from requirements gathering to production, making sound architectural decisions.
• Design and optimise database schemas, queries and indexing for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB.
• Ensure resilience, observability and production readiness through logging, monitoring, testing and error handling.
• Implement authentication, authorization, audit logging and security best practices (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT or Cursor while critically reviewing generated code.
• Collaborate with product managers to break down complex requirements into scalable solutions.
• Review code, establish engineering best practices, mentor teammates and contribute to overall quality.
• Provide occasional frontend support in React when needed.

• Proven experience designing and delivering backend systems at a senior level.
• Strong ability to work independently and make architectural trade‑offs.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to code quality.
