Assistant Purchasing Manager – Procurement & Supply Chain

About the role

The Assistant Purchasing Manager will oversee the end‑to‑end procurement process, ensuring timely and cost‑effective acquisition of goods and services. This position works closely with suppliers, internal teams and the retail buying function to support business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Create and approve purchase orders while ensuring compliance with company policies.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to negotiate favorable terms, prices and delivery schedules.
• Conduct market research and cost analysis to identify savings and new sourcing options.
• Manage inventory systems, forecast demand and minimise excess stock.
• Lead and mentor a team of purchasing specialists, setting performance goals.
• Implement purchase automation tools to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
• Coordinate with warehouse, sales and finance to align purchasing with budgets.
• Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality or delivery.
• Prepare reports on purchasing metrics, budget usage and supplier evaluations.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in wholesale or retail distribution and buying.
• Proven track record managing purchasing operations in a retail environment.
• Strong analytical abilities for cost analysis and demand forecasting.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills for cross‑functional coordination.
• Leadership experience guiding a team of purchasing specialists.
