Chief Internal Auditor – Lead Internal Audit Function

About the role

The Chief Internal Auditor will head the internal audit function of Pakistan International Airlines, providing independent assurance to the Board Audit Committee and senior management on governance, risk, controls and performance. This senior leader will play a pivotal role in supporting the airline’s transformation and institutional excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk‑based internal audit strategy aligned with the airline’s business priorities, turnaround plan and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare the annual internal audit plan for Board Audit Committee approval and deliver assurance over governance, risk management, internal controls and compliance.
• Review and assess the effectiveness of the airline’s risk‑management framework, including strategic, financial, operational, regulatory, technology, safety and reputational risks.
• Audit high‑risk areas such as Finance, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, HR, IT, Safety, Cargo and transformation projects, identifying control weaknesses and inefficiencies.
• Provide assurance on business continuity, crisis management, disaster recovery and readiness to respond to operational disruptions.
• Present audit findings, risk insights and corrective‑action updates to the Board Audit Committee and senior leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading internal audit functions in large, complex organisations.
• Deep knowledge of international internal audit standards, risk‑based auditing and corporate governance.
• Proven ability to interact directly with boards, CEOs, external auditors and regulators.
• Strong analytical mindset with a track record of delivering practical, evidence‑based audit recommendations.
• Commitment to ethical conduct, accountability and continuous improvement.
