About the role

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our client’s team as a Backend Engineer focused on JSON Schema development. This remote contract position involves designing, building, and validating JSON schemas that enable reliable data extraction from complex PDF documents for AI training pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze 25–150‑page PDF documents to identify and model key data points for domain‑specific use cases.
• Create comprehensive JSON extraction schemas from scratch, defining field extraction logic, data types, and nested structures.
• Embed field‑level validation rules such as sum checks, null‑value testing, and conditional pattern matching directly into schemas.
• Define and maintain API contracts to ensure consistency between schema definitions and downstream integrations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align schema design with data architecture and model evaluation goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience with JSON Schema specification and data modeling.
• Ability to design schemas for real‑world document processing, handling complex nesting and repetition.
• Strong understanding of validation rules, error handling, and API contract design.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger and schema‑first development approaches.
• Experience analyzing unstructured PDFs and converting them into structured representations.
