Database Administrator (DBA) – IT Operations

About the role

The Database Administrator (DBA) ensures the stability, performance, security, and lifecycle management of the company’s database platforms, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server in on‑premises datacenters and future hybrid cloud environments. The role supports the transition from ad‑hoc operations to a standardized, automated data platform service and operates from an offshore location in Pakistan while collaborating with teams in Denmark and the broader Nordic organization.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments (on‑prem, evolving to hybrid and cloud).
• Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of database platforms.
• Ensure database availability, stability, and performance; monitor health, capacity, and utilization.
• Manage backup and restore operations, validate recovery procedures, and support high‑availability, replication, and disaster‑recovery solutions aligned with RPO/RTO requirements.
• Analyze performance bottlenecks, optimize SQL queries, indexing, and execution plans; monitor blocking, deadlocks, wait statistics, and resource utilization.
• Enforce database security standards, role‑based access control, and secure configuration hardening.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, T‑SQL) and standardized operational runbooks.
• Contribute to the evolution toward hybrid cloud architecture (Azure SQL, IaaS/PaaS) and data platform modernization.
• Participate in incident handling, root‑cause analysis, and problem/change management processes.
• Maintain documentation and audit‑ready evidence of operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Experience with backup, recovery, high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Familiarity with performance tuning, capacity planning, and query optimization.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams in a distributed setting.
