Division Director II – Identity, Equity & Transformation

About the role

The Division Director II leads the Identity, Equity and Transformation Division, partnering closely with the Deputy Secretary to advance special education initiatives and support identified role groups, including students with disabilities, Native American students, economically disadvantaged students, and English learners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of agency programs and staff, ensuring alignment with mission, vision, and court mandates.
• Develop and implement a statewide action plan for Martinez/Yazzie groups and coordinate with division leaders across the agency.
• Monitor and interpret state and federal laws to ensure budget compliance and support LEA and charter compliance.
• Manage division budgets, conduct program reviews, and create monitoring tools.
• Identify additional funding sources and lead special projects, representing the Deputy Secretary when needed.
• Deliver professional development and technical assistance to all stakeholder groups.
• Support the Special Education Transformation Team and collaborate with community, family liaisons, and contractors.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
• At least eight years of professional experience with strategic impact, preferably at the state level.
• Combination of education and experience totaling fourteen years may substitute for the degree requirement.
• Demonstrated management or specialized experience as designated by the hiring agency.
