Expert Internal Control & Compliance

About the role

The Expert Internal Control & Compliance will join the Internal Controls Centre of Excellence, reporting to the Group Senior Manager. Based in Islamabad, the role works with a small extended team to design, implement and oversee a global control framework aligned with COSO and VEON’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain a standardized global control framework and associated policies.
• Identify, assess and document key financial and operational risks and controls across finance and functional areas.
• Monitor First Line controls, provide challenge and advice, and ensure timely remediation of gaps.
• Lead internal‑controls due diligence and integration for new acquisitions.
• Coordinate global control activities, balancing standardisation with regional regulatory requirements.
• Report on control environment health, residual risks and remediation progress to HQ and OpCos.
• Partner with AI and digital specialists to automate control testing and evidence collection.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks such as COSO.
• Experience in risk identification, control design and monitoring.
• Ability to work across multiple geographies and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
• Basic AI literacy and ability to collaborate on automation initiatives.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of GRC platforms, preferably AuditBoard and MindBridge.
• Familiarity with AI prompting and generative AI concepts for control automation.
