Head of Shared Research Services

About the role

The Head of Shared Research Services (SRS) provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for shared research administration across the Faculty of Health Sciences. Reporting to the Dean, Medical College and Vice Provost, Research, the role ensures research services are efficient, compliant and aligned with the university’s strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the overall strategic and operational management of SRS, establishing service standards, performance indicators and continuous improvement processes.
• Oversee the administration of extramural and intramural research grants, ensuring compliance with donor regulations, financial reporting and regulatory affairs.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with national and international stakeholders, including government bodies, funding agencies and research administration societies.
• Guide and support research teams in proposal development, contract negotiation and post‑award management.
• Monitor field sites, facilitate audits, and drive resource optimisation for cost‑effective grant delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field; international certifications in research administration are a plus.
• At least five years of senior administration experience in a healthcare or service‑industry setting, including management of diversified research grant portfolios.
• Proven leadership in building and directing multidisciplinary teams covering grant administration, HR, procurement, IT, legal, audit and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to implement new systems and improve processes in large, service‑based organisations.
