Lab Technologist – Cytogenetics

About the role

Shifa International Hospitals Limited is a 550‑bed quaternary care hospital in Islamabad offering comprehensive diagnostic services across more than 35 specialties. The laboratory seeks a dedicated Lab Technologist to perform cytogenetic investigations, supporting high‑quality patient care and research. This position involves working closely with pathologists and other laboratory staff in a JCI‑, CAP‑, and ISO‑compliant environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cytogenetic investigations, including chromosome analysis and karyotyping.
• Conduct and interpret Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) tests according to established protocols.
• Prepare, culture, harvest, and process specimens for cytogenetic analysis.
• Analyze chromosome preparations to identify numerical and structural abnormalities.
• Maintain accurate documentation, laboratory records, and ensure compliance with quality control procedures.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and consumables following standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with pathologists and laboratory staff for timely case processing and participate in internal quality assurance activities.

Required profile

• B.Sc. (Hons.) in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant post‑degree experience in a reputable diagnostic laboratory, preferably with hands‑on experience in cytogenetics, karyotyping, and FISH.
• Experience in a CAP‑accredited or internationally accredited diagnostic laboratory is an advantage.
