Legal Researcher (Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Research Subject Matter Expert to work remotely on an hourly contractor basis. You will review AI‑generated legal research outputs, produce high‑quality legal research content, and provide detailed feedback to improve AI reasoning and citation accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed prompts and gold‑standard legal research deliverables such as issue outlines, research plans, memo templates, and authority summaries.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses, identifying errors in issue spotting, jurisdiction handling, authority selection, citation accuracy, and rule application.
• Write clear explanations, model research memos, and provide precise written feedback to enhance AI performance.
• Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, misleading certainty, jurisdictional errors, and bias, ensuring reliability across varied legal scenarios.

Required profile

• JD/LLB (or equivalent) or advanced paralegal/legal research background; active bar membership is a plus.
• 5+ years of professional legal research experience in law firms, in‑house, government, academia, or legal publishing.
• Proven ability to conduct structured research from issue framing to authority synthesis and to articulate caveats and uncertainties.
• Strong citation hygiene and ability to verify quotations, pinpoint citations, and flag unsupported assertions.
• Excellent attention to detail and C1‑level English proficiency with clear, concise legal writing.
• Self‑directed, reliable, and able to deliver consistent quality in a remote, hourly workflow.
