Plant Inspection Officer (ITC) – Punjab

About the role

The Inspector ITC Plants will carry out phytosanitary inspections of plants, plant products and regulated articles at points of entry and exit across Punjab. The role supports the National Agri‑Trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) in strengthening Pakistan's agri‑trade ecosystem through rigorous regulatory oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct phytosanitary inspections in line with notified laws and standard operating procedures.
• Collect official samples of plants, pests and related material, ensuring proper chain of custody and documentation.
• Inspect export consignments to verify compliance with importing‑country phytosanitary requirements before certification.
• Supervise and verify phytosanitary treatments such as fumigation, heat, cold and other approved measures.
• Monitor approved facilities (packhouses, warehouses, treatment facilities, quarantine stations, yards, conveyances) for compliance.
• Implement prescribed measures on non‑compliant consignments, including detention, treatment, re‑export or destruction.
• Detect, record and report pest interceptions, non‑compliance, suspected fraud or bio‑security risks and prepare official reports.
• Coordinate with Customs and other border agencies during inspection and clearance processes.

Required profile

• B.Sc. (Hons.) in Agriculture with a specialization in Entomology, Plant Protection, Plant Pathology, Weed Science or a related field (minimum sixteen years of education).
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in plant quarantine, plant protection, inspection or related field operations (fresh candidates with strong practical exposure may be considered).
• Knowledge of sampling, inspection procedures and basic phytosanitary requirements.
• Ability to work in field/shift environments while maintaining high integrity.
• Basic computer skills for record entry and reporting.
