Remote Data Engineer (1+ yr experience)

About the role

MBUDevs is seeking a motivated Data Engineer to design and maintain scalable data pipelines in a fully remote environment. You will work with a variety of data sources, cloud platforms, and modern data‑engineering tools to turn raw data into actionable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
• Collect, clean, transform, and validate data from multiple sources.
• Develop and optimise SQL queries and database performance.
• Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to deliver reliable data solutions.
• Monitor data quality, integrity, and pipeline performance.
• Implement data security and governance best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data‑related issues.
• Maintain documentation for data workflows and architecture.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 1+ year of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative Agile environment.

Required skills

• SQL and relational database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• Python for data processing and automation.
• ETL/ELT tools and data integration.
• Pandas and PySpark for data transformation.
• Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
• Apache Spark.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
• Data‑warehousing concepts (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse).
• Version control with Git.
• Docker and containerisation (nice to have).
• Kafka or real‑time streaming (nice to have).
• BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau (nice to have).
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (nice to have).
