Resident Coordinator – United Nations (Pakistan)

About the role

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest‑ranking United Nations development system representative in Pakistan. Reporting directly to the Secretary‑General, the RC leads the UN Country Team to implement the UN Cooperation Framework and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state and, together with relevant agency representatives, foster engagement with government, civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework, ensuring its implementation in full consultation with the Government of Pakistan.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, taking a preventive approach to address development challenges and promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Advocate for accelerated action on the SDGs and ensure accountability across the UN development system.
• Report annually to the host Government on the system‑wide implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in international development and the United Nations system.
• Deep understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
• Proven ability to engage high‑level government officials and diverse development partners.
• Strong strategic planning, analytical and diplomatic skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of the Pakistani context is an advantage.
