Senior Backend Architect - NestJS & GraphQL

About the role

A highly senior backend engineer is sought, operating at Lead Engineer / Architect level on a lean team. This is a high-ownership role where engineers use AI agents to speed up research, planning, implementation, testing and refinement, but full ownership remains with the engineer. Candidates must have previously held responsibilities similar to Lead Engineer or Architect.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own backend services in NestJS and TypeScript, from schema to production
• Make architecture decisions independently, focusing on scalability, maintainability and reliability
• Build and maintain GraphQL APIs across a microservices environment
• Own database design, optimization and reliability in PostgreSQL
• Define technical direction, set and enforce quality standards across AI-generated and manually written code, and turn ambiguous product needs into clear technical solutions
• Contribute to system design, infrastructure decisions, testing strategy and developer productivity

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Extensive hands-on experience with Node.js, Express.js or NestJS
• Experience with backend frameworks in high-scale environments
• Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs and working with microservices
• Proficiency in client-side scripting, JavaScript frameworks and cross-browser compatibility
• Git and CI/CD pipeline awareness

Required skills

• GraphQL and TypeORM
• Relational and non-relational databases; advanced knowledge of MongoDB and/or PostgreSQL, including design, administration and optimization
• NestJS, TypeScript, Node.js
