Senior PHP Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)

About the role

Smart Working is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own large‑scale production systems handling GPS, telematics, video and location data. The position is fully remote, full‑time and intended to start in November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the PHP backend that ingests GPS, telematics, safety hardware events and DVR video, and sends real‑time alerts.
• Deliver the Yii2‑to‑Laravel migration and the MariaDB‑to‑PostgreSQL migration within the defined timeline.
• Support the decomposition of the existing monolith into microservices and maintain APIs for web, mobile and integration partners.
• Take over systems from a retiring contractor, quickly become productive despite limited documentation, and support the AI product line.

Required profile

• 8+ years of commercial PHP backend development at expert level.
• 5+ years of experience with large‑scale SaaS or complex production systems.
• Strong ability to work independently, take end‑to‑end ownership of mature production systems and apply solid technical judgement.
