Structure Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Structure Design Engineer to join SMEC’s team on a hydropower project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The role involves delivering structural designs for hydropower, road and other infrastructure works while ensuring compliance with project specifications and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural designs, calculations, drawings and technical specifications for hydropower, roads and infrastructure projects.
• Perform structural analysis and design using engineering software and applicable international design standards.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to integrate structural solutions with other engineering disciplines.
• Provide technical support during construction and respond to design‑related queries from site teams.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings and design modifications for compliance.
• Identify and resolve structural engineering challenges with practical, cost‑effective solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation and ensure adherence to quality, safety and best‑practice standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; a Master’s in Structural Engineering is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in structural design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, preferably on hydropower, roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to work in a consultancy environment and build trusted relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ETABS, STAAD.Pro and AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of international structural design standards and codes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
