Unit Head Litigation – Lead Legal & Tax Litigation

About the role

Our client, U Microfinance Bank, is seeking a senior legal professional to lead its litigation function in Islamabad. The Unit Head Litigation will independently manage all court and regulatory matters, coordinate with external counsel, and support the Chief Legal Officer on complex legal and tax disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Handle routine legal queries from branches and head office, focusing on litigation matters.
• Manage and oversee both contentious and non‑contentious litigation, drafting pleadings, submissions and show‑cause notices.
• Coordinate with external panel lawyers, tax counsel and regulatory authorities, ensuring timely case updates and performance monitoring.
• Maintain and regularly update the litigation dashboard and tax litigation tracking reports.
• Provide legal support to branches, advise on court notices, orders and related actions.
• Draft and vet contracts, agreements and legal opinions as required.
• Participate in HRCC meetings, HR‑related investigations and bank‑wide projects needing legal input.
• Conduct periodic visits to branches and local courts to monitor developments.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B or equivalent) with extensive experience in banking or financial services litigation.
• Proven track record of managing large‑scale civil, criminal and tax litigation.
• Strong understanding of corporate law, regulatory requirements and intellectual property enforcement.
• Excellent analytical, drafting and negotiation skills.
• Ability to lead a team, coordinate external counsel and interact with senior management.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of local civil and criminal litigation procedures.
• Experience with tax litigation, including income tax, sales tax and withholding tax matters.
• Familiarity with regulatory bodies such as the State Bank of Pakistan.
• Proficiency in drafting legal documents, pleadings and court submissions.
