US Tax Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced U.S. Tax Accountant to lead a night‑shift team aligned with U.S. CST business hours from our Karachi office. The role requires deep technical expertise in federal, state and local tax compliance, as well as proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review complex U.S. federal, state and local tax returns for individuals (Form 1040, 1040‑NR) and business entities (Form 1120, 1120‑S, 1065).
• Prepare international tax forms and disclosures.
• Manage state income/franchise tax returns, multi‑state apportionment, and sales & use tax compliance.
• Conduct technical research on complex tax issues and calculate quarterly estimated tax payments.
• Draft responses to IRS and state tax authority inquiries, assist with audits and dispute resolution.
• Collaborate with accounting leads on book‑to‑tax adjustments and trial balance reconciliations.
• Drive team productivity during peak filing seasons, establish quality‑control checklists, and mentor junior preparers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; ACCA or CA preferred.
• 5‑8+ years of U.S. tax compliance experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and bookkeeping principles.
• Excellent written and verbal English for client communication and collaboration with U.S. teams.
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure during peak tax seasons.

Required skills

• Proficiency with professional U.S. tax software.
• Experience using cloud accounting platforms.
• In‑depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Familiarity with the Internal Revenue Code (IRC).
• Bookkeeping and financial statement alignment skills.
