Application Scientist – Advanced Laboratory Instruction

About the role

The Application Scientist will support the Physics Department in delivering advanced laboratory instruction and developing modern experimental content for courses such as PHY 300/500. The role involves designing, modernising, and maintaining experimental setups while collaborating with faculty, technical staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and manage advanced laboratory courses, providing hands‑on guidance to students.
• Design, develop, test, and upgrade physics experiments, integrating advanced instrumentation, optics, sensors, automation, electronics and data‑acquisition systems.
• Operate, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including specialised optical and quantum platforms.
• Prepare and update laboratory manuals, technical documentation and troubleshooting guides.
• Mentor students on laboratory projects and collaborate with faculty and technical staff on departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Systems or a related field from an HEC‑recognised institution.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in laboratory instruction, experimental physics, instrumentation or laboratory development.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
