Consultant Ophthalmologist

About the role

The Consultant Ophthalmologist is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Karachi, responsible for delivering specialized clinical care to patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. The position involves conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing and managing medical and surgical eye diseases, and performing procedures such as cataract and other anterior or posterior segment surgeries.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and diagnose ocular diseases.
• Perform cataract surgery and other anterior or posterior segment procedures.
• Supervise and mentor junior clinicians and optometry staff.
• Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in case discussions and maintain accurate medical records.
• Support community outreach, teaching activities and other mission‑aligned programs.

Required profile

• Recognised medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology (e.g., FCPS, FRCS) and valid medical council registration.
• Proven experience as a practising ophthalmologist, preferably in high‑volume or teaching hospital settings.
• Strong diagnostic and clinical decision‑making skills with a patient‑centred approach.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and supervise junior staff.
• Good communication skills in English and local languages, with meticulous record‑keeping.
