Country Representative – Pakistan

About the role

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Country Representative in Lahore, Pakistan. Reporting to the Asia Director for Research Impact, the role shapes and drives IWMI’s strategic research and operational agenda in the country, aligning with national development priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead the implementation of IWMI’s strategic research and operational direction in Pakistan.
• Represent IWMI at the highest levels of government, national partners, donors, and civil society.
• Provide senior‑management advice on opportunities, risks, and trends related to research and program implementation.
• Oversee a research‑for‑development portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and country context.
• Identify funding opportunities, develop project proposals, and support fundraising activities.
• Lead the design and execution of innovative research projects that generate high‑quality scientific outputs and development impacts.
• Manage in‑country staff, fostering a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
• Oversee office operations, risk management, financial reporting, and quality assurance for research portfolio management.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in research, development, or related sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and promote staff well‑being.
• Strong track record of engaging with government bodies, national partners, donors, and civil society.
• Experience in securing funding and developing research proposals.
• Excellent communication skills for high‑level advocacy and dissemination of research results.
