Electrical Technician

About the role

The Electrical Technician will ensure reliable operation of the plant’s electrical systems by performing maintenance, monitoring condition, and responding to emergencies. This role supports smooth production through hands‑on work on high‑voltage and low‑voltage equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on generators, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPS and related equipment.
• Monitor equipment condition using diagnostic tools and initiate early‑fault detection.
• Conduct routine inspections, testing and report abnormalities to supervisors.
• Install, commission and test new electrical systems and equipment.
• Respond to call‑outs and troubleshoot faults to minimise plant downtime.
• Execute planned shutdown jobs according to schedule.
• Apply lockout/tag‑out procedures to ensure safety of personnel and assets.

Required profile

• DAE Electrical (Diploma of Associate Engineer) or equivalent.
• 10‑12 years of post‑apprenticeship experience in power‑plant electrical maintenance.
• Hands‑on experience with turbo‑generators, exciters, AVRs, control and relay panels, MV/LV switchboards, MCCs, power transformers up to 40 MVA, LV motors, VFDs, UPS, battery systems and earthing/lightning protection.
• Familiarity with 132 kV switchyard equipment and 145 kV SF6 circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, PTs and lightning arrestors.
• Knowledge of power‑system protection, numerical relays and interpretation of single‑line diagrams.
• Proficiency in using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers, earth testers, phase‑sequence meters, stethoscopes and vibrometers.
