Energy Regulatory Attorney – Remote Contract

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Energy Regulatory Attorney to join a leading global energy company on a remote contract basis. The attorney will provide specialized legal counsel on federal and state energy regulations, support high‑stakes regulatory proceedings, and help shape policy initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on compliance with federal and state energy laws, including FERC regulations, state public utility commission rules, and environmental standards.
• Draft, file, and manage regulatory documents, petitions, and motions in energy‑related proceedings before agencies.
• Analyze proposed tariffs, rate cases, and regulatory proposals to identify legal risks and recommend strategic responses.
• Represent the client in meetings with regulators, industry stakeholders, and policy groups to advocate for favorable outcomes.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the energy sector and provide timely updates to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction, with a preference for candidates experienced in energy regulation.
• Proven experience in energy law, including familiarity with FERC and state utility regulations.
• Strong analytical and written communication abilities.

Required skills

• Expertise in interpreting and applying complex energy regulatory frameworks.
• Experience preparing and filing regulatory documents and participating in proceedings.
• Ability to assess legal risks and develop strategic regulatory responses.
