Executive Engineer – Substation Automation Systems

About the role
As an Executive Engineer in Substation Automation Systems, you will join Siemens Smart Infrastructure to design, install, and commission advanced digital power distribution solutions. You will work on projects that connect energy systems, buildings and industries, helping customers achieve safe, efficient and sustainable operations.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in installation, configuration and testing of SAS components such as Bay Control Units, IEDs, RTUs, HMIs and SCADA interfaces.
- Perform field signal testing, GOOSE messaging checks and IEC 61850 communication validation.
- Verify interlocking logic, command signals and real‑time monitoring via HMI/SCC.
- Troubleshoot Ethernet, serial and fiber‑optic network issues, including managed switches, routers and firewalls.
- Support system integration with control centres using IEC‑101/104, Modbus and DNP3 protocols.
- Prepare and maintain field documentation: signal lists, test reports and configuration backups.
- Coordinate with system engineers, protection teams and client representatives during shutdowns and commissioning.
- Ensure site compliance with electrical safety practices and quality standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of field experience in substation automation systems.
- Hands‑on experience with equipment from Siemens, ABB, Schneider or GE.
- Willingness to travel and work at various substations, including remote locations.
Required skills
- IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SCL) and SCADA architecture knowledge.
- Configuration tools such as DIGSI, IET600, PCM600, Toolbox II, SCC or equivalents.
- Understanding of single‑line diagrams, logic diagrams and network communication architectures.
- Proficiency with Ethernet, serial and fiber‑optic communication, and protocols IEC‑101/104, Modbus, DNP3.
