Principal Engineer

About the role

Beam AI is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead a squad while staying hands‑on with code. You will own a product area, turn ambiguous problems into buildable solutions, and guide the product through release and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers and ensure delivery and quality of the product area.
• Design and build across the stack, tackling the most critical technical challenges.
• Collaborate with Product to shape solutions, make trade‑offs and ship useful work.
• Build and improve AI‑agent capabilities that run reliably in real customer workflows.
• Set high standards for testing, observability and production ownership.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leading engineers as a tech lead or manager.
• Strong hands‑on coding skills and a track record of solving difficult technical problems.
• Experience shipping LLM or AI‑agent features and iterating based on production behavior.
• Sound judgment about architecture, reliability and when simpler solutions suffice.
• Proven ability to coach engineers and take responsibility for a team’s output.

Required skills

• TypeScript/Node.js, React/Next.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, event‑driven systems, cloud infrastructure (experience with any is acceptable).
• Building backend services, APIs, databases and user‑facing products.
• Practical use of AI coding tools with clear understanding of their limits.
