Rig Electrician – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Rig Electrician for a 12‑month contract on oil and gas drilling rigs. The role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a wide range of electrical equipment to ensure safe and reliable rig operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install and connect electrical equipment such as SCR/VFD houses, MCC panels, generators, motors, transformers, switchgear, lighting, drilling instrumentation, CCTV and communication systems.
• Assist with equipment disconnection, packaging, and re‑connection during rig moves.
• Perform routine maintenance and visual inspections of electrical systems.
• Ensure strict compliance with lock‑out/tag‑out procedures on‑site and at the campsite.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults, replace relays, switches, motors, position‑sensing devices, and motor bearings.
• Rewire motors and maintain accurate records of all electrical work.
• Manage inventory of spare parts and order replacements as needed.
• Supervise junior crew members and train new personnel.
• Guarantee that all electrical systems meet safety regulations and are properly grounded.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years overall field experience on oil and gas drilling rigs.
• At least 5 years experience specifically as a rig electrician.
• Matric qualification preferred.
• Proven ability to supervise and train junior crew.
