Senior PHP/Symfony Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)

About the role

We are looking for a senior PHP/Symfony engineer to take ownership of backend development on a mature Symfony platform that handles marketing and revenue data for enterprise customers. The role is fully remote, part of a cross‑functional product squad and involves working with Symfony, Angular, TypeScript and Python AI micro‑services.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver backend features in the core Symfony application, becoming productive within 2–3 months.
• Lead the migration from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7, resolving versioning and legacy issues.
• Improve performance, scalability and maintainability of the platform.
• Collaborate with front‑end, AI services and DevOps teams, reviewing code and AI‑generated output.
• Ensure compliance with SOC 2, PII and security controls.

Required profile

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including 5+ years in PHP.
• Fluent written and spoken English with strong remote communication skills.
• Ability to work UK business hours and pass strict background checks.
• Self‑sufficient, able to work with minimal hand‑holding after the initial onboarding period.

Required skills

• PHP (expert level) and Symfony 6.x/7 (advanced).
• Laravel experience (transferable to Symfony).
• MySQL schema design and query optimisation (advanced).
• Angular/TypeScript awareness.
• Automated testing with PHPUnit (and Pest or equivalent).
• CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
• Cloud platforms: AWS (2+ years) – Azure or GCP acceptable.
• Experience with AI tooling for code generation and review.
