Senior Water Resources Engineer

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead technical delivery of water and irrigation infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will apply advanced hydrological and hydraulic expertise to design innovative solutions for irrigation systems, river works, storm‑water management and flood mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, design and implementation of irrigation and water infrastructure projects.
• Conduct and supervise hydrological evaluations, rainfall‑runoff modelling, flood estimation and reservoir operation simulations.
• Provide technical guidance on river hydraulics, sediment transport, river training works and flood mitigation measures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary, national and international teams to ensure sound project delivery.
• Engage with clients, funding agencies and stakeholders to meet technical, environmental and social standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or water resources engineering or planning; postgraduate qualification preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in irrigation and water infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in a consultancy environment with a track record of delivering complex projects.
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to build trusted client relationships.
