Shift Technologist

About the role

The Shift Technologist ensures safe, reliable and efficient operation of pumping stations and oil terminal facilities at Pak-Arab Refinery Limited. Working from the control room, the technologist continuously monitors HMI/SCADA systems, conducts field inspections and coordinates with maintenance and engineering teams to maintain compliance with SOPs, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor HMI/SCADA panels and control room displays to keep operating parameters within normal limits.
• Respond to alarms by starting/stopping pumps, adjusting flow rates, performing tank changeovers and optimizing operating conditions.
• Analyze alarms, coordinate corrective actions with the Operations Engineer or Station In‑charge, and handle start‑ups, shutdowns and emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate shift logbooks, prepare operational reports (shutdowns, power failures, pump hours, tanker demurrage, etc.) and update data in SAP and Excel.
• Conduct regular plant rounds to identify equipment issues, unsafe conditions and environmental hazards, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Review P&IDs, Cause & Effect charts and interlocks for field alignment and suggest process improvements.
• Raise maintenance notifications in SAP, coordinate field work with maintenance, engineering, HSE and other departments, and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
• Supervise crude oil unloading from tank lorries and oversee related logistics activities.
