South Asia Correspondent – Business & Tech Reporting

About the role

The Karachi correspondent will report on business, technology, economic and social issues in Pakistan for CNA Digital, with selected work also appearing on CNA's TV and radio platforms. The role covers developments in Karachi and, as CNA expands, news across Pakistan and the wider South Asia region.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor news developments in Pakistan and South Asia, providing prompt, concise updates for editorial decisions.
• Plan and deliver Pakistan‑related coverage, including stories, series and events.
• Produce original, value‑added stories across formats such as news, features, analysis, commentaries and special projects.
• File deliverables (live hits, news stories, feature packages, multi‑part series) under the guidance of Singapore‑based desk editors.
• Build and maintain a reliable network of government officials, business leaders, analysts and existing partners in Pakistan.
• Liaise with Pakistani officials, representing CNA professionally as part of Mediacorp.
• Identify impactful story ideas, travel within Karachi and beyond as required, and work irregular hours.
• Contribute to multi‑platform content (digital, TV, radio) and support the adoption of new technology and social‑media tools.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of full‑time journalism experience in Pakistan (Karachi coverage a plus).
• Strong network of contacts in Pakistan and a keen interest in current affairs across Asia.
• Outstanding writing, newsgathering abilities and a tenacious spirit.
• Sound understanding of geopolitical sensitivities and potential red lines.
• Native‑level proficiency in English and fluency in Urdu.
• Independent operator with solid interpersonal skills and a collaborative team attitude.
• Prior experience with visuals, AI or social‑media tools is a plus.
• Willingness to travel and work irregular hours.
