Community Legal Officer – Protection & Legal Services

About the role

The Community Legal Officer (CLO) serves as the frontline legal presence for the IRC’s protection project, linking vulnerable displaced communities with legal information, counseling and representation across five districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and lead legal awareness sessions in camps, tailoring content for women, children and persons with disabilities.
• Provide individual legal counseling on civil status, documentation, family law, eviction and arrest, and represent clients before administrative bodies and courts.
• Maintain accurate case files, record activities, and contribute to regular reporting on caseloads and protection trends.
• Build relationships with community leaders, local authorities and NGOs to strengthen outreach and referral networks.
• Coordinate with protection, casework, MHPSS and women’s protection teams to ensure integrated multi‑sectoral support.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent and a valid license to practice law in Pakistan.
• Minimum two years of experience in legal aid, access to justice or protection work, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
• Experience providing legal counseling or representation to migrants, displaced persons or other vulnerable groups.
• Familiarity with Pakistani civil and family law, NADRA documentation, UNHCR registration and international protection frameworks.
