Mechanical Plant Technician – Maintenance

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Plant Technician to join our manufacturing facility. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance of plant equipment, ensuring reliable operation and supporting production.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of plant machinery such as mixers, conveyors and pumps.
• Diagnose faults and repair or replace mechanical components including bearings, belts and seals.
• Carry out fabrication work including welding, cutting and grinding.
• Assist in installation, alignment and modification of equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify leaks, vibrations or abnormal conditions.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures, especially for hot‑work activities.
• Maintain basic maintenance records and report breakdowns.
• Support the production team during breakdowns and urgent maintenance needs.

Required profile

• Minimum Matric/FSc; DAE Mechanical preferred.
• 1‑2 years of relevant experience, preferably in an industrial setup.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment and plant machinery.
• Hands‑on skills in welding (arc, gas, MIG/TIG) and gas cutting.
• Familiarity with preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
• Understanding of safety procedures, especially hot‑work and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Basic knowledge of alignment, fitting and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to use measuring instruments such as vernier calipers and micrometers.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic documentation and reporting abilities.
