Embedded Design Engineer

About the role

Ironclad is looking for a highly skilled Embedded Design Engineer to lead the development of next‑generation counter‑UAS and anti‑drone systems. You will create safety‑critical firmware and real‑time low‑level software that bridges sophisticated RF/sensor hardware with real‑time control applications, directly protecting critical infrastructure and personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test firmware for detection, tracking, and interdiction hardware.
• Implement real‑time software on ARM Cortex‑M/R microcontrollers, FPGAs, and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Develop and maintain drivers, device trees, and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr) based applications.
• Integrate communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN bus, and Ethernet.
• Perform hardware‑software debugging using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG debuggers, and RF test equipment.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and document technical solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in embedded software or firmware development, preferably in UAV, robotics, or defence.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities in high‑stress test environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in C and C++ (memory optimization, multi‑threading, bitwise operations).
• Experience with ARM Cortex‑M/R, FPGA development, and RTOS platforms (FreeRTOS, Zephyr).
• Embedded Linux development, including device trees and driver writing.
• Hands‑on knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART, CAN bus, Ethernet interfaces.
• Familiarity with GPS‑denied navigation, RF spectrum sensing, and motor‑control communication.
• Proficiency with debugging tools: logic analyzer, oscilloscope, JTAG debugger, RF test equipment.
• Version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines for hardware, and Python scripting for test automation.
