Backend Architect - Ontology + Python + AI/ML - Afternoon

About the role

10Pearls is looking for a Backend Architect to lead the design and evolution of its next‑generation AI‑native platform (AIX). The focus will be on the Ontology Layer (L3), the semantic core that powers multi‑tenant AI services. This senior role combines architectural ownership with hands‑on development in an onsite environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design a multi‑tenant PostgreSQL schema with row‑level security, indexing, and pgvector support.
• Architect and implement a Strawberry‑GraphQL API for reads, mutations, and subscriptions, ensuring tenant isolation and authorization.
• Own the action registry and governance state machine, including approval workflows and cryptographic proof generation.
• Define cross‑layer contracts between data plane, ontology, agent runtime, and governance components (Kafka topics, MCP Truth API, event formats).
• Write reference implementations for core modules each quarter and review backend pull requests.
• Mentor a squad of 3‑5 engineers, conduct design reviews, and maintain architecture decision records.
• Set and defend SLOs for L3 services, drive load‑testing, and perform capacity planning.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of experience building production backend systems in Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, AsyncIO) or equivalent.
• Deep hands‑on expertise with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimisation, RLS, migrations, and pgvector.
• Proven experience designing and delivering multi‑tenant SaaS platforms.
• Strong background in event‑driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
