Clearing Operations Officer

About the role

The Clearing Operations Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of inward and outward clearing instruments, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s policies, SBP and NIFT regulations. The role involves close coordination with branches and relevant departments to maintain smooth clearing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Process inward and outward clearing instruments within defined timelines and regulatory cut‑off times.
• Scrutinize cheques for details, signatures, dates, amounts, crossing, endorsements and other required particulars.
• Handle normal, same‑day and intercity clearing activities and manage returns efficiently.
• Coordinate with branches for verification, confirmations, discrepancy resolution and maker‑checker controls.
• Manage NIFT‑related clearing files, reports and transactions, ensuring timely processing.
• Prepare and maintain MIS, reconciliation and operational reports, including settlement and suspense/GL records.
• Identify and escalate doubtful or potentially fraudulent instruments for verification before processing.
• Maintain proper audit trails, filing and supporting documentation in line with bank policies and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline.
• Relevant banking qualification is an advantage.
• Proven banking experience with solid knowledge of clearing operations, cheque processing and NIFT procedures.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SBP and NIFT clearing regulations.
• Proficiency in processing and reconciling clearing instruments.
