Director (International Trade Compliance)

About the role

The Director (International Trade Compliance) will lead NAFSA's International Trade Compliance Division, shaping Pakistan's agri‑trade ecosystem through robust SPS measures and border controls. Reporting to the Deputy Director General (Operations Wing), the role is pivotal in establishing risk‑based, technology‑enabled processes for import, export and transit consignments across all entry points.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the ITC Division to ensure consistent, risk‑based SPS compliance at airports, seaports, dry ports and land borders.
• Oversee Deputy Directors for Plant Exports, Plant Imports, Animals and Food Safety, ensuring clear accountability and segregation of duties.
• Develop, update and audit SOPs for documentary checks, inspections, sampling, quarantine, treatment, certification and incident management.
• Coordinate with Customs, provincial departments, notified laboratories and other border agencies to maintain operational readiness.
• Manage sample chain‑of‑custody, laboratory turnaround times and follow‑up on non‑compliance.
• Provide operational intelligence and feedback to Pakistan Single Window for continuous improvement of standards and protocols.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in international trade compliance, SPS regulations and border control operations.
• Proven leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams in a regulatory or governmental environment.
• Strong understanding of phytosanitary and veterinary certification processes.
• Excellent coordination skills with customs, port authorities and provincial agencies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) measures and inspection protocols.
• Experience with technology‑enabled compliance systems and data‑driven risk assessment.
• Familiarity with sample management, chain‑of‑custody procedures and laboratory interfacing.
