Electrical Design Engineer - Data Center Infrastructure

About the role

Fortek is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with strong end-to-end data center electrical design experience. The role covers conceptualizing, designing and delivering reliable, efficient and scalable electrical systems for mission-critical data centers, with work in power distribution, backup power, UPS, ATS/MBTS, earthing and bonding, short-circuit studies and protection coordination. It sits in Technical & Projects under the line manager Bakhat Jamal.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical power system design for data centers, including HV, MV and LV distribution, standby generation, UPS, PDUs, ATS/MTS and battery systems
• Develop single-line diagrams, three-line schematics, cable schedules, load calculations and panel layouts, ensuring Tier 3/4 redundancy and maintainability
• Design grounding, bonding, lightning protection and surge protection in line with international and national standards
• Ensure compliance with NEC, Pakistan Electrical Rules, NFPA, IEEE and IEC, and prepare design documents, specifications and BOQs for tendering
• Review vendor drawings and submittals, and evaluate and qualify electrical equipment suppliers
• Work with MEP, civil, IT infrastructure and commissioning teams, and attend project coordination meetings
• Perform design reviews, risk assessments and HAZOP, and run design checklists and QA/QC
• Report daily on vendor drawings and RFIs, weekly on load calculations and risk logs, and monthly with consolidated progress reports

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (HEC-accredited); Master's in Power/Electrical/Energy Systems preferred
• 8-15+ years of progressive experience in data center electrical design
• Experience with UPS, generators, ATS/MBTS, switchgear, power factor correction, earthing and lightning protection, and short-circuit and coordination studies
• Experience with FEED, detailed design, tendering support, vendor evaluation, construction supervision and commissioning
• Analytical, problem-solving mindset, stakeholder management, project planning, and vendor management

Required skills

• Power system analysis with ETAP, SKM or EasyPower
• AutoCAD / Revit (BIM) electrical drafting
• Protection and coordination studies, load forecasting and distribution design
• Certifications such as CDCP/CDCS/CDCE, IEEE/IEC membership, and AutoCAD/Revit certification preferred
