Engineering Manager - Karachi

About the role

Dubizzle Labs is expanding its Pakistan engineering office, which already has more than 300 colleagues, and is looking for an Engineering Manager in Karachi. The role leads a technical team that builds cloud software products supporting the group's businesses across 10 countries, on a platform handling millions of requests per day.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design and develop cloud software applications, collaborating with Product, Infrastructure, Design, UX, CLM and Strategy.
• Enforce agile practices such as test-driven development, CI and test automation.
• Collaborate with offshore teams on architecture and delivery issues.
• Cultivate the technical backlog and prioritise between immediate and future needs.
• Analyse and remediate production issues, build fault tolerance and operational readiness into the architecture.
• Own non-functional requirements, architectural direction, code quality and technical debt, and ensure security of platforms and infrastructure.
• Mentor the team on code design patterns, hire top talent, identify growth paths and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
• Act as project and product manager while leading the team technically.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of server/client-side software development experience.
• Minimum 3+ years in a management role, including performance and people management.
• Experience leading teams and working on high-traffic, large-scale web products.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of free and open-source software development (e.g. Python, Java, JavaScript, Objective-C).
• Strong understanding of scalability and high availability systems, RESTful service design and API design.
• Experience with operations, live production apps, monitoring, remediation and incident management.
• A solid experience with AWS is a plus; working experience of Kubernetes is a plus.
