FreeCAD Mechanical CAD Expert & AI Trainer

About the role

SME Careers is seeking a FreeCAD specialist to create realistic CAD tasks and record expert demonstrations for AI training. This remote, hourly contract position involves designing challenging parametric models and documenting the workflow so AI agents can learn and be evaluated.

Key responsibilities

• Author production‑realistic CAD tasks covering sketching, part design, assemblies, TechDraw sheets and export workflows.
• Record end‑to‑end demonstrations using provided screen‑capture tools, capturing actions, interface state and file changes.
• Document step‑by‑step workflows, define verification criteria and intermediate checkpoints.
• Review and quality‑check submissions for realism, completeness and adherence to success criteria.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of professional experience in mechanical design, product development or manufacturing engineering.
• Proficient in FreeCAD, especially Sketcher and Part Design workbenches.
• Strong understanding of fully‑constrained sketching, parametric expressions, and robust feature trees.
• Ability to work remotely, be screen‑recorded, and keep personal or confidential data out of view.

Required skills

• FreeCAD (Sketcher, Part Design, Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, Spreadsheet, FEM or CAM workbenches).
• File‑format handling: STEP, IGES, BREP, STL/mesh.
• Operating systems: Windows 11, Ubuntu (X11) or macOS.
• English proficiency (minimum B2) for clear documentation.
