Head of Legal (EVP/SEVP) – Senior Executive

About the role

The National Bank of Pakistan is seeking a senior legal leader to head its legal function. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Head of Legal (EVP/SEVP) will provide strategic legal counsel and ensure compliance across the bank’s extensive local and international operations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver ongoing legal advice and support to senior management on banking, financial services, litigation, and regulatory matters.
• Manage and coordinate legal affairs across multiple jurisdictions, working with local and foreign counsel.
• Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of all contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
• Lead property‑related legal issues and ensure compliance with employment and labour laws.
• Represent the bank before high‑level committees, government ministries, and regulators.
• Anticipate potential legal risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Minimum LLB from a recognized university; LLM or other relevant certifications preferred.
• Bar membership required.
• At least 15 years of corporate law experience, with a minimum of 7 years in senior legal leadership or strategic advisory roles.
• Extensive experience in banking, financial services, litigation, and regulatory affairs.
• International legal exposure, including managing cross‑border matters and coordinating with overseas counsel.
• Strong knowledge of employment, labour, and property law.
