Network and System Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Xavor is hiring a Network and System Engineer with 6+ years of hands-on experience to support a managed IT operations engagement for a regulated, security-sensitive enterprise. The role combines day-to-day network operations, firewall administration and on-prem virtualization/server infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on deep troubleshooting and disciplined change execution. It is listed as remote.

Key responsibilities

• Configure, administer and support Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama, including security policies, NAT, SSL decryption, site-to-site VPN and GlobalProtect remote access
• Design and support routing and switching across LAN/WAN, including VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation and dynamic routing protocols
• Troubleshoot from Layer 1 to Layer 4 using PCAP and Wireshark, and apply PAN-OS and firmware updates through formal change control
• Take part in on-call rotation and respond to P1/P2 network incidents against defined SLAs
• Build, operate and maintain Hyper-V and/or VMware vSphere environments, including clustering, live migration and storage configuration
• Administer physical servers and out-of-band management controllers (iDRAC, iLO), including firmware lifecycle and capacity planning
• Maintain network segmentation, firewall policies, credential rotation, access isolation and certificate hygiene; route changes affecting sensitive zones through client security leadership
• Escalate suspected security events and take part in quarterly access and credential reviews
• Document every change with impact assessment, test evidence and rollback plan, contribute to runbooks and knowledge-base articles, and collaborate with other engineers

Required profile

• 6+ years of hands-on enterprise network engineering and administration, including production experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls
• Production experience with Hyper-V and/or VMware vSphere and physical server hardware
• Ability to treat security as part of routine operations
• Experience in a formal change advisory board or equivalent change process, and comfort in regulated, audit-heavy environments
• Preferred: PCNSE, CCNA or CCNP
