Orthopaedic Surgeon

About the role

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P), part of the Aga Khan Development Network, is recruiting an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon for its Lower Chitral facility. The surgeon reports to the Medical Director and Manager HPM & Administrator and provides surgical and non-surgical care for musculoskeletal conditions, trauma and elective cases, working with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage surgical patients in outpatient, inpatient and emergency settings.
• Perform surgical procedures within approved scope of practice, privileges and competency.
• Provide peri-operative care, including pre-operative assessment, informed consent, post-operative follow-up and complication management.
• Follow clinical guidelines, patient safety, infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship and risk management policies.
• Supervise, mentor and teach junior doctors and trainees, and take part in continuous professional development.
• Take part in emergency and on-call surgical services according to departmental rotas.
• Work with anaesthesia, critical care, nursing, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy teams.
• Contribute to departmental planning, quality improvement, hospital committees and outreach programmes.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and take part in clinical governance, including morbidity and mortality meetings, audits and incident reporting.

Required profile

• MBBS with a postgraduate orthopaedic qualification (FCPS, MS, MCPS or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
• One year of orthopaedic surgery experience, or completion of FCPS training in orthopaedics, or a fresh FCPS graduate; preferably within healthcare systems or large service organisations.
• Valid registration with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
• Legal eligibility to work in Pakistan.
• Integrity, confidentiality, adaptability and cultural sensitivity, with flexibility to meet AKHS mandates.
