Plant Inspection Officer – Sindh (Urban)

About the role

The National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) is building its core team to strengthen Pakistan's agri‑trade ecosystem. As a Plant Inspection Officer you will carry out phytosanitary inspections at points of entry and exit, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct phytosanitary inspections of plants, plant products and regulated articles at designated entry/exit points.
• Collect official samples for diagnostic analysis, maintaining chain of custody and proper documentation.
• Inspect export consignments to verify they meet importing‑country phytosanitary requirements before certification.
• Supervise and verify phytosanitary treatments (fumigation, heat, cold, etc.) and confirm safety compliance.
• Monitor approved facilities such as packhouses, warehouses, treatment centres and quarantine stations for regulatory compliance.
• Implement prescribed measures on non‑compliant consignments, including detention, re‑treatment, re‑export or destruction.
• Detect, record and report pest interceptions, non‑compliance, suspected fraud or bio‑security risks and prepare official reports.
• Coordinate with Customs and other border agencies during inspection and clearance processes.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the reporting officer to support NAFSA’s mandate.

Required profile

• B.Sc. (Hons.) in Agriculture with a specialization in Entomology, Plant Protection, Plant Pathology, Weed Science or a related field (minimum 16 years of education).
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in plant quarantine, plant protection or inspection (fresh candidates with strong practical exposure may be considered).
• Knowledge of sampling methods, inspection procedures and basic phytosanitary requirements.
• Ability to work in field/shift environments while maintaining high integrity.
• Basic computer skills for record entry and reporting.
