Psychologist - MHPSS, Haripur and Nowshera

About the role

The IRC's Integrated Services project for Afghan refugees and host communities in Haripur and Nowshera districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provides protection, GBV, SRH and MHPSS services, along with livelihoods, youth engagement and social cohesion initiatives. The Psychologist leads the implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities, with culturally sensitive interventions for vulnerable individuals and communities, including MHPSS for caregivers and parents.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan and implement structured MHPSS interventions tailored to target populations.
• Facilitate psychosocial support sessions for individuals, families and groups.
• Deliver Psychological First Aid training for health facility staff and community workers.
• Develop and run mental health awareness campaigns to reduce stigma.
• Advocate for mental health promotion with community leaders and stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain referral pathways to specialized mental health care.
• Coordinate with protection teams, healthcare providers and other stakeholders.
• Mentor and supervise staff to build capacity in MHPSS delivery.
• Monitor, review and document intervention impact, and prepare progress and impact reports.

Required profile

• Master's degree in psychology.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience implementing MHPSS programs, case management and counseling services.
• Experience working directly with women, girls and children in field settings.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English, Urdu and local languages.

Required skills

• Knowledge of designing, developing, implementing and evaluating GBV, MHPSS and protection programs.
• Understanding of MHPSS and GBV core principles, counseling, gender issues in Baluchistan and KP, and child protection risks.
• Case management and individualized support to high-risk individuals.
• Excellent report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
