Research Engineer - Electrical, Mechanical & Chemical (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a PhD‑qualified Research Engineer to develop and optimise advanced engineering solutions across electrical, mechanical and chemical domains. This remote‑first contract role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to drive innovation on high‑impact projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, simulate and validate electrical, mechanical or chemical systems according to project specifications.
• Conduct theoretical modelling and experimental validation to ensure performance and reliability.
• Develop and refine algorithms or processes that improve efficiency and scalability of engineering solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
• Provide expert troubleshooting and optimisation recommendations for existing systems.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Proven experience in applied research, system design or process optimisation within the relevant engineering discipline.
• Strong ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical, scalable solutions.
• Experience with data analysis, statistics and experimental design methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder updates.

Required skills

• Proficiency with simulation tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB or SPICE.
• Algorithm development and optimisation.
